Another year older this weekend. Not a biggie, but still another year gone and not too much closer to being ready for retirement — ya right.
Spent a great weekend with the family, an NHL game with the boy, and some ice time with just the boy and the oldest girl. What a great morning that was, a whole rink and only 3 of us on it.
Never gave my birthday a second thought until the wishes came in on Saturday through facebook and email, made me a feel a bit old. Not old in the way you feel like the end is near, just old as in warn-out. Too much on my mind, too many things on the go, need to get a hold on things. I think that one I get things moving in the right direction on a more consistent basis, everything will be alright. Life will slow down again.
Simplify seems to be the trend these days, and frankly I think that may be the way to go. Make a list, and start from the beginning. Just like when I started in business, write it, do it, stroke it off the list.
Done and Done. New year, New mentality, New list.
Just a few things I saw this morning that made me want to share.
Top 10 most paused movie segments – taking a look at this list, I must say, that besides the Brad Pitt one, I have certainly at least paused. http://goo.gl/aPVpe
Never saw this coming – New movie ‘Super’ Looks like it is along the lines of Kick-Ass, but a bit more on the comedy side. Rental in my view, what do you think ?
From the business side of things, Robert is a kinda business hero of mine. Except for #3 on this list I think this deserves a read if you are an entrepreneur or not. Robert Herjavec – Top 10 for Entrepreneurs http://goo.gl/kloHf
Ok, this has got to be one of the coolest things I have read in a long time. The best thing about this form of fuel generation is that we do not have to take food out of the mouths of people to produce an expensive, barely utilized fuel like ethanol.
Where can I buy stock once they prove this out ?
Go get them Joule ! http://goo.gl/ZHOB9
Just spent a weekend up in the Huntsville area with a bunch of high school friends. It was the wife and I as well as the young boy. None of the girls wanted to come up.
It started out as a rough trip up, weather being the main obstacle. Whiteouts, slick roads, and a bunch of crazy truck drivers that thought they were on a Florida road in august. At one point, it was all I could do to ensure we did not get hit from behind, while not hitting the vehicle in front of us, avoiding the speeding trucks beside us, all while only being able to see 10 feet in a blizzard in the dark.
Fun wow, next year I go up early.
Once we arrived (last as usual), the fun began. Not the wild fun of our youth, but a more relaxed fun bred of familiarity and the comfort that comes with being with people who know you.
While I could drone on about the weekends events, the laughs, the quite moments, I only really want to point out the absolute serenity felt in the presence of true friends. Not just some casual talk at a party or over dinner, but real, relaxing comfort.
Something I will not forget soon, and as I look back, there are very few weekends that can compare.
Thank you my darling wife, friends. Looking forward to next year.
How many times have you had a problem with email piling up. Read this and implement, I will be. Maybe then we all will not be scared of our inbox on Monday morning. http://bit.ly/h63Sdj
The funny thing is I just saw this last weekend – one after another part I and II, and you know what, I didn’t even notice. I thought maybe it was age getting to me, but my middle daughter didn’t notice either. While the exit/entrance shots are almost identical, the actress changes between movies. Nice bit of work here to show the comparison.
I was in a meeting with a company today, and they were very happy with what we had to offer. In further discussions they were also looking to avoid any social media problems with a blogger as per Canadian Tire a couple of months ago (where a blogger managed to get CBC’s attention and started a news story).
As my boss and I discussed it afterwards, what is there really to avoid with social media ? This CT issue was strictly a one-person complaint that CBC tried to stretch into a story. Was it even a valid complaint – I couldn’t tell, this guy could have been a crack-pot who had a vendetta for all I know, and frankly there would be no story there then would there ?
So the question becomes, even though the media is there, through the internet, to have access to everyone on the net, Does anyone Really Listen ? If not submitted to CBC would this have become a story ? I don’t think so.
It is still a VERY rare thing for a story to become big enough on the internet alone to affect a large Brand, unless it is a technology company that makes it’s living on the net (ie MySpace). I truly believe the day will come when this is not the case, but for now, it still takes ‘mainstream media’ attention to make a real dent in a brand, or make a story ‘known’.
